- PPoint
PREP helps you give a clear opinion: say it, back it up, and finish where you started.
When to use it
Good for "What do you think..." or "How do you usually..." questions, like how you set priorities or work with others.
Steps
Point
Say your answer in one sentence.
Reason
Why do you think that?
Example
Give one short example that shows it.
Point
Come back to your answer, in slightly different words.
Example answer
For me, a good project update should make the next decision easier (Point). People want to know what's on track, what's at risk and where they can help (Reason). On one product launch I swapped our long weekly summary for 3 status points and a short list of open decisions. We sorted out problems sooner and the meetings got shorter (Example). So a good update is one that helps people act, not just one that keeps them informed (Point).
Tips
- Start with your answer. Don't make them wait for it.
- One good example is better than three average ones.
- Keep the ending short. No need to repeat everything.
