CAR is the short version: what went wrong, what you did, and what changed.
When to use it
Good when someone asks for an example and you'd rather get straight to the point.
Steps
Challenge
What was the problem? One or two sentences is enough.
Action
What did you do about it, and why that way?
Result
What changed afterwards?
Example answer
Our support team kept getting the same questions about a new feature (Challenge). I read through the messages and found 2 steps that confused people. I sat down with a designer, we rewrote the help text in the app, and we gave the support team a quick walkthrough (Action). Over the next few weeks those questions dropped off and the team could help people faster. It reminded me how much you learn from the people who talk to customers every day (Result).
Tips
- Keep the problem real. No need to make it sound dramatic.
- Explain why you chose what you did, not just what.
- End with what changed, even if it's small.
